Summertime Scouting

It is important to note that while all Scout Outings are family coordinated events, the guide to safe scouting and all safeguarding youth rules must be followed while in attendance.

June

Butte Creek Falls June 20th 1pm

A hike and a dip in a waterfall… what can be better than that? An hour south near the town of Scotts Mills, Oregon is a little known falls called upper Butte Creek Falls. This is an incredibly short hike just to this section, however the peak interest here is the curtain style falls and shallow pool for swimming. The trail leads on to several lower falls. The hike past this point will NOT be part of our scouting adventure this go as it is a bit more difficult for younger scouts and somewhat dangerous.

Getting to Butte Creek Falls trailhead can be difficult and does require driving on gravel roads.

Download your map before going, there is no service here.

July

Hillsboro Parade July 4th 9am

Plan on getting your steps in; last year we did a little over 6 miles in total. We will be meeting @ 9 am (Parade Starts at 10am) on 3rd between Jefferson and Grant. (Same location as previous years)
Bikes are Encouraged for scouts but remember closed toed shoes and a helmet is required to ride.
PLEASE ALL SCOUTS AND LEADERS SHOULD BE WEARING CLASS A UNIFORMS. All parents and dragons should be wearing Class B T-shirts. If you do not have a t-shirt please let me know (Matthew Brown).

Parking recommendations will be sent out prior to the event as parking can be difficult. PLEASE plan ahead for this.

Wilson River Footbridge July 25th 1pm

Whoever said don’t go chasing waterfalls obviously has never seen some of Oregon’s waterfalls. Lets spend all summer chasing as many as possible! While there are many places to swim here that are safe for young scouts, I unfortunately will be designating this as a non-swimming area which means scouts can only get into water to their waste and MUST be accompanied by their parents while in the water. Parents are however encouraged afterwards to explore this rivers beautiful water afterwards.

Be aware parking can be limited and cell service is not guaranteed here.

August

Summer Craft August 12th 3pm

This is our annual recruiting event so please tell a friend! Similar to years past we will have a craft setup for all to enjoy. This will be done in a highly visible area of the park next to the playground and all kids are welcome to join in on the fun. The craft details will not be revealed until the event so please join us for some fun and crafting in our neighborhood park.

We will be setup near the main entrance.

LaCamas Lake August 15th 1pm

Sure this one may not be in Oregon, but I’ll give it a pass on this trip. LaCamas Lake is very large, we will be hiking around Round lake and LaCamas Creek specifically. The lake features a very easy and accessible hike that can be tailored as an out and back trip for any age and distance. Potholes Falls is a short hike from the entrance and definitely worth seeing while lower falls takes us on a journey to the center point of a 5-mile loop. The lake itself opens up the possibility to fish and swim. (Designated areas will be marked for appropriate swimming capabilities.)

Parking at the hike entrance is limited, please consider parking at the far lot and walking in.

Summer BBQ August 23rd 3pm
