There is a lot of vital information in this newsletter, thank you for bearing with me for it being long. We are gonna dive right into the year with a Beach themed pack meeting. There will a game and song or two. Scouts can grab their boat kits for the Raingutter Regatta. And each den will make a den flag! Try to help others be happy.”Den MeetingsDen meetings are where the real adventure happens!  At the meetings, scouts do activities like games, sports, crafts, hands on learning and field trips! During these meetings, scout progress towards a badge of rank. Each of the ranks in Cub Scouting has its own requirements that are age appropriate. Do Your Best to have your scout attend as many den meetings as possible this year. Scouting is best in-person with friends!  The link below is a general overview of when dens are meeting, please talk to your leader or see Scoutbook for more details. Den Meeting Schedule BSA Medical Forms Annual Health and Medical Records every year is the first step in making sure you have a great Scouting experience. These medical forms need to be present for every person attending any scouting event.  This includes den meetings, pack meetings, NOVA Club meetings, hikes, camp-outs, and so forth. And include copy of insurance cards.  No digital copies can be accepted.  This a legal requirements from BSA that the Pack intends to comply with moving forward. Forms from last year or this summer have been shredded. Everyone need to submit new forms for this year. And we mean EVERYONE. Everyone participating.  We need a form for each scout, attending adult, sibling, and guest.  That means the parent staying with the scout for the hike needs a form.  Little sister who comes to den meetings and joins in a bit needs form. Grandma  who attends the event with the scout because parents are working needs a form.  We want to stress that these people are all at Pack 195 . We just need the proper form for them to attend. We recommend if the person attends fairly regularly, just turn in a form now to make it less of a hassle.   This does mean leaders will need to turn away people without completed forms turned in.  Again, this a legal requirement from BSA designed to keep you safe in an emergency. And allow us to get you proper care as well.   We are streamlining the collection process to make it easier for everyone though!  The Medical Form Coordinator Summer will have a table at the September and October Pack Meetings. She will have printed forms to fill out there, and will accepted already completed forms printed at home.  She will even have a portable copier for copies of insurance cards.    To make transporting the needed forms to events, Summer will make copies the forms as well. Then we can distribute them to necessary leaders. For example, one for your den leader, one to hiking coordinator, one for camp-outs, & so forth. We know you will have more questions. Please reach out Summer or talk to her at Pack Meeting. BSA Medical Form Popcorn Our Fall Popcorn Fundraiser is here!! This is an easy way to raise funds for your scout’s entire scouting year to potentially  paid for.  We are talking dues, camp-outs, winter lodge, and summer camp—-totally covered. If you wish to participate and have not done so already, please register each scouts for a Trail’s End account. You will use those links to share with anyone you would like to invite to order directly from your scout online now. If you are a parent who will be with your scout at storefront sales or doing wagon sales, be sure to download the Trail’s End app on your phone. Once you have created your account and are linked to our Pack you can see the available storefront shifts and reserve for your scout. Tips on successful selling. More info at the September Pack Meeting. Contact Popcorn Kernel Jessica Dorsey Raingutter Regatta We are only 2 weeks from one of our pack’s beloved annual events! The Raingutter Regatta is a pack-wide miniature boat race.  The Scouts use a kit to build a trimaran sailboat that is “wind-powered” by blowing on the sail. They can work to make their boat more aerodynamic, and they can decorate it. Scouts then race their boats in water-filled rain gutters, with adults timing each boat.  Kits can be picked-up at the September Pack Meeting, or by contacting Jo Richards.  We will be accepting racer now all the way up to day off.  See upcoming events for more details. Boat and Racing TipsContact Jo to get kit Hiking Club The hiking club is returning for another year of outdoor fun!  It is open to all scouts, family, and friends.  Each month, we meet at different local trail for an all-levels hikes.  These hikes are a great way to spend quality time outdoors, get some fun exercise, and can be even used to rank adventure requirements.  To celebrate scouts’ hiking achievements, we award those who attend 3 hikes their very own leader-crafted hiking stick! And, they can earn chip token for every 5 miles they hike.  To get started or continue your hiking journey, check out our September hike info below. We want to say a BIG thank-you to Jenny for all her time and effort as the coordinator last year. She brought such amazing ideas to the role that the program model is being used as an example all over the council!  Her scout is crossing over this spring, hence her stepping back from the role.  But have no fear! Our original Hiking Coordinator Jenelle steps backs in the role! We are excited to see what she is planning some awesome stuff—-we can’t wait! NOVA Club The NOVA Club meets several times throughout the year to work on various science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) activities. This optional club is open for ranks Wolf and higher. Scouts may choose to earn one or several awards each year.  The NOVA Club features two part: NOVA Awards and the SuperNova Awards.   There are 11 NOVA Awards scouts can earn from Wolf to AOL ranks.  Each award can only be earned once.  Three to four awards are offered each year (see flyer). By working with an adult counselor, various modules allow them to explore the basic principles of STEM. Each module incorporates learning with cool activities and applies STEM to everyday life and scouting.   The Cub Scout Supernova award recognizes superior achievement by a Cub Scout in the fields of STEM. It has more rigorous requirements than the Nova awards. The requirements and activities were designed to motivate youth.  There are two award options: Wolves and Bears can earn the Dr. Alvarez Award and Webelos and AOLs can earn the Dr. Townes Award.  Each award can only be earned once. Our first pack meeting of the scouting year will try to hold on to summer a bit longer with a Cheerful beach theme. Which will include making den flags! Bonneville Dam Tour All Scouts, family, and friends welcome for a tour for Washington Shore Visitor Center of the Bonneville Dam! All attending are REQUIRED to turn in complete BSA medical forms with copies for insurance cards to attend. May be turned in day of. No digital copies accepted. If you turned one in for Spring Camp-out or Summer Camp, you are good if it is still accurate. It’s about a 90 minute drive from Hillsboro. If you take 84 on the Oregon side, please note there is a $3 each way toll on the Bridge of the Gods. Please also leave with a full tank of gas, there is limited gas stations in the Gorge. We suggest eating beforehand or bringing a sack lunch to eat after the tour as there is no food options nearby. No backpacks permitted on the tour. September NewsletterBack to School and back to Scouting! Thirteen scouts already blazed the scouting trail this year by earning the National Summertime Activity Award. This award is given to any scout who participate in at least one Pack activity each Summer month. Also, Dens 2, 3, 6, 7, and 10 for earned the award at the Den Level! AND once again we earned the award at the Pack level as well! Make sure your scout attends the Pack Meeting next Wednesday to get their patch/pin!We hope you had a wonderful summer, and ready to dive into s’more scouting fun! We have many awesome adventures planned this year. Make sure you check out the ScoutBook Calendar to stay up to date on all the Den and Pack fun!

Scout Law Highlight:COURTEOUS. Be polite to everyone and always use good manners. Encourage your scout to be courteous everyday. Use good manners, practice the Outdoor Code, say please and thank you often, practice good sportsmanship—-and listen to your parents, teachers, and scout leaders.

Pack Meetings

Pack Meetings are still on the 1st Wednesday each month at 6:30 PM in the Imlay Elementary Cafeteria. All scouts and parents should to attend to stay up to date on Pack info, receive scout awards, and join in the fun! We plan to be in person for all meetings this year unless we are mandated to do otherwise. Family, friends, and guests always welcome! Rumor has it the September meeting may involve marshmallow shooters…..Pack Meeting Wednesday September 7th @ 6:30 PM Imlay Elementary CafeteriaThis year each den will take turns hosting the meetings. Host duties will include set-up/clean-up, flags, skit or joke during the meeting, and refreshments for afterward. Check on the Scoutbook Calendar or with your Den Leader for your den’s hosting month. This month Wolf Dens 1 & 3 are kicking off the hosting duties. SuperNova Award This optional award recognizes superior achievement by a Scout in the fields of STEM. This month we highlight the scout law of reverent. Reverent means feeling or showing a deep solemn respect. A Scout is reverent when they show respect for the beliefs of others. This month we focus on experiencing the customs of our friends from other countries—like the scouting games from Japan and India you played for the gathering activity at the Pack Meeting. You can play Sudoku and Kaooa at home with your family, too!

We are so proud you all attained this honor and hope you will continue to progress through the elective adventures until you reach the time to start work on the next rank.

• NOVA Club Rice Museum Visit Sunday May 8^th @10:30 AM. There are few spots open, even for Scouts who just want to come check out the museum for free without earning the award. Please contact Cubmaster Sam ASAP 
• Spring Camp-Out May 14th to 15th @ Camp Clark. Sign-up is closed now and details have been sent out to those participating. Contact Sam or Josh with questions.

• Rank-Up June 12th @ 4 PM Camp Ireland. Celebrate the end of another Scouting year with the entire Pack! We will start off with more of a Pack Meeting feel– skits, songs, and giving out awards and rank. Then we will break for Pizza and cake. Then we will transition to more a campfire feel for each den to move to the next rank. Please purchase or check the uniform library for the necessary rank-up supplies for your scout (neckerchief, slide, hat, book, blue/tan shirt, etc.) Check with your den leader for uniform information.  RSVP Here
