Brave New Month
Now that we are all getting into the swing of the new scouting and school year, time to do some brave new things! This month scouts will have the opportunity to do several possibly new things. Starting at the Pack Meeting, each den will learn and perform a skits or song. The whole family can camp at Hillsboro’s own Camp Ireland. Hiking with the Hiking Club at Silver Falls. Webelos and AOLS can get a taste of Troop life at Webelos Woods. AND all the fun at den meetings this month. So many brave new experiences await. As always, finances should never be a barrier to scouting. Please contact Pack Leadership to discuss options for any of the events listed or in the future. ~See you Wednesday!Cubmaster Sam
Scout Law Highlight: Brave“A Scout is Brave. Face difficult situations even when you feel afraid. Do what you think is right despite what others might be doing or saying.
BSA Medical Forms
Annual Health and Medical Records every year is the first step in making sure you have a great Scouting experience. These medical forms need to be present for every person attending any scouting event. This includes den meetings, pack meetings, NOVA Club meetings, hikes, camp-outs, and so forth. And include copy of insurance cards. No digital copies can be accepted. This a legal requirements from National. Forms from last year or this summer have been shredded. Everyone need to submit new forms for this year. That means the parent staying with the scout for the hike needs a form. Little sister who comes to den meetings and joins in a bit needs form. Grandma who attends the event with the scout because parents are working needs a form. We want to stress that these people are welcome at Pack 195 . We just need the proper form for them to attend. We recommend if the person attends fairly regularly, just turn in a form now to make it less of a hassle. There will be a table right at sign-in for the pack meeting with forms to complete. We suggest being proactive and bringing copies of insurance cards to the meeting.

Raise Money for your scout to help pay Pack Dues and fund our wonderful Council! Sell popcorn door to door, digitally to friends and family through social media, or reserve a storefront shift. Engaged families can cover all pack dues with this fundraiser. More information will be discussed at the parent breakout of our first pack meeting. For those who are new—1/3 of sales go to the scout, 1/3 stay with the district, and 1/3 go to pay for the product. All product will be provided by the pack, the only thing you need to bring is a cell phone to accept digital payments. We will have 2 hours shifts available between 10am and 4pm at the Lowe’s on TV HWY now and running most weekends until October 12th. There will be more information presented at the meteting, but the first step is to download and register your scout through the Trails End app. Our “Unit Code” is 3APX4.

NOVA Club
The NOVA Club meets several times throughout the year to work on various science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) activities. This optional club is open for ranks Wolf and higher. Scouts may choose to earn one or several awards each year. The NOVA Club features two optional parts: NOVA Awards and the SuperNova Awards. There are 11 NOVA Awards scouts can earn from Wolf to AOL ranks. Each award can only be earned once. Three to four awards are offered each year (see flyer). By working with an adult counselor, various modules allow them to explore the basic principles of STEM. Each module incorporates learning with cool activities and applies STEM to everyday life and scouting. This year we are offering 3 more awards (see flyer). The Cub Scout Supernova award recognizes superior achievement by a Cub Scout in the fields of STEM. It has more rigorous requirements than the Nova awards. The requirements and activities were designed to motivate youth. There are two award options: Wolves and Bears can earn the Dr. Alvarez Award and Webelos and AOLs can earn the Dr. Townes Award. Each award can only be earned once. We already began working on both SuperNova awards for the year last month, but we can still welcome a scout if they contact Sam by the end of the month.
